Rotary Swimarathon Policy for Grants

The sponsorship money raised by our swimming teams mostly comes from the generous support of our local people. The Rotary Club of Grantham policy is that any funds raised by Rotary Swimarathon  event will by used for worthwhile causes in the Grantham and District area. About £1500 of annual Rotary Swimarathon money is granted to our Rotary Club Charities account. This account is used locally, Nationally and Internationally for projects such as medical equipment to assisting with the eradication of polo worldwide.

If you have a worthwhile project in the Grantham area or that Grantham people benefit from then you can apply for a grant from the Rotary swimarathon by clicking this link.

A Rotary Swimarathon grant to the Grantham Choral Society in 2008 allowed them to continue a Youth Choral Choir. Within one year the Youth Choral Society is up and running and now includes over eighteen boys and girls from 11 to 18 singing four part harmonies confidently. Read here what their choir master has to say about the new Youth Choral Choir and how a Rotary Swimarathon grant helped to get the project underway.

A major grant from the 2002 Rotary Swimarathon helped to purchase the yacht pictured right, called The Granthamian. The yacht is operated by Rutland Sailability and is used by local disabled people. The yacht is fitted out with electric 'gismo's' to enable easy handling. The freedom gained by disabled people being able to sail is so therapeutic.

Some would say that the person sitting in the yacht is not handicapped? It is the 2000/2001 President Robert Holland at the presentation

The Mini Ambu;ance for Grantham Mencap A major grant from the 2003 Rotary Swimarathon assisted Grantham Mencap to purchase this mini-ambulance. The ambulance is used around Grantham to ferry the members to appointments, functions and some outings. The staff at Grantham Mencap say the mini-ambulance is the most handy vehicle they have ever had and is in daily use.
Pictured here is the horse box which the Rotaryswimarathon 2005 gave a grant for. This has enabled Kesteven Ridability to take handicapped people to equestrian events locally and at distant events.

The box is also used for picnics where the handicapped people are met and they can then go off for a 'hack' in new surroundings.

Organiser Vickie Strawson says,"This horse box has added a whole new dimension to our service to the local handicapped people".
